The idea

Sydney Self-Built Home

The strong black-and-white exterior gives this self-built Sydney home its identity, but the most convincing moments happen inside. A broad central pane and narrower opening windows frame the landscape as one composed view, bringing sunlight across the timber floor.

You do not have to begin by knowing a product name. Begin with what you want to see from the sofa, where the morning light should land, and how much fresh air each room needs. This project shows how fixed and operable panels can be composed around those everyday decisions.

What this home makes possible

01

Fixed and operable panels do different jobs

A broad central pane preserves the main view, while Chenxing 109 casements at the sides bring in fresh air through integrated screens. This composition avoids filling the outlook with unnecessary mullions while keeping the room naturally ventilated.

02

Thermal-break frames reduce a common weak point

Aluminium is strong but naturally conductive. The thermal break in the Chenxing 109 interrupts the direct path between outside and inside, helping the window contribute to year-round comfort when paired with the appropriate insulated glass.

03

The largest opening receives the heavier system

The Xining L6 gives the broad outdoor opening a more robust frame and running system. Its final panels, glass and hardware can be configured around span, frequency of use and local wind pressure rather than treating every sliding door as the same.
